Facial wrinkles
The mimetic musculature is bound to the facial skin and when contracted a visible wrinkle is produced. Depending upon which muscle is contracted, the face is capable of expressing joy, astonishment, anger or annoyance. When the wrinkles that are produced during a negative disposition are permanently engraved in the face, a false impression can be produced.
The face can as a result unintentionally convey the impression of, for example, stress, annoyance, anger or weariness. The glabellae wrinkles in between the eyebrows, known as worry wrinkles, often give the impression of displeasure. Often the cause for these wrinkles is due simply to intense concentration or strain, e.g., by working at a computers screen or from driving an automobile.
A permanent deepening of facial wrinkles results from the continued strain of the facial musculature over the years.
As a result, the wrinkles are present even in the absence of the tension.
