Immediate implantation and immediate restauration – is this possible?

Immediate implants and treatment means, the tooth will be removed and in the same visit the implant placed. A mold will be made directly after the operation and within the space of a few hours the “long-term temporary” that the technician has handcrafted is provided.

Scientific background
Over the last four to five years significant design improvements in implants (the so called root-formed implants) and improved microsurfaces have made the technique of immediate implants and replacements possible. In the hands of experienced surgeons the immediate implants and their maintenance offer results equal to those of the delayed implants.
The advantage of improved appearance and higher comfort is now within the patients reach. The key factor involved being that the experienced surgeon now has the possibility to control the stability of the implant during the operation.
Only under these conditions coupled with the careful removal of all infected tissue matter can the can the immediate implant be successful.

Procedure
After the corresponding anesthesia, the tooth and / or the remaining roots as well as any infected material are carefully removed. If enough bone material is available, one of the root-formed implants will be selected and anchored into the prepared region for the tooth.

At this stage, the stability of the implant is tested and if necessary, surrounding bone may be rebuilt to replace the missing bone structure. If the implant is already sufficiently stable, the mold is made and the dental technician makes the long-term replacement. This manner of treatment places high demands upon the team and requires the cooperation of the patient. Optimal hygienic conditions must be maintained and the patient must be careful as to place as little chewing strain as possible on the finished dental replacement.

The method of treatment described here certainly represents the most elegant and comfortable solution for the patient. As a rule, all neighbouring structures such as bone and gums can be both optimally preserved and reconstructed.
